2026 Process
After receiving feedback from Bioethics Bowl Teams and Coaches, the National Executive Committee has decided to amend the registration process to allow more teams the opportunity to indicate their interest in participating. Teams will be randomly selected from those that have indicated their interest. This change will alleviate the pressure to register in an urgent manner as well as ensure that the selection process is as fair as possible.
Teams that would like to participate in the National Bioethics Bowl will have three days in January to complete a form to indicate their interest in attending. Each team that completes the form will be assigned a number which will be its official number for the drawing. A webinar showing a live drawing of selected teams will occur two days after the close of the opportunity to express interest in participation. Numbers (corresponding to those distributed to teams when they indicated their interest) will be drawn using an electronic random number selector. Schools will know by the end of the webinar if they have a guaranteed spot or where they are positioned on the waitlist. The host school will be awarded the 20th spot.
Teams that have been drawn for a guaranteed spot will have 7 days to register and pay the registration fee using the provided link. (An individual link will be sent directly to each school selected in the lottery. The link will come from Cindy McCarthy at authorize.net. Please check your SPAM folder to make sure you are not missing the link.) Teams that have not paid by the 7thd day will be sent a final reminder to pay by the end of the 7th day at 5pm Eastern Time. If payment is not received by the end of the 7th day, the team will lose its spot, and the waitlist will be utilized. Teams pulled off the waitlist and offered a guaranteed spot will have seven days to days to register and pay.
A link to the host school’s website as well as the exact dates and times of the registration, random drawing, and payment due date will be posted here by November 1 each year so that teams have adequate time to prepare.
